Updates from our May 3 Vision Meeting

Published May 8, 2026

We had a wonderful time at our Vision Meeting last Sunday! Here’s a short recap of what we covered.

Oh give thanks to the Lord; call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples (Psalm 105:1)

We have much to give thanks for since we announced the church plant at the beginning of the year. In the course of our information sessions, prayer nights, and community events, many of you have shared that Covenant City is feeling more and more like a church! We’re grateful for God’s hand that has been slowly forming our church community.

God has also been graciously providing people to help us with various aspects of our planning. We’re thankful for Brian Ekk and Broek Bosma who have been helping drive our building search, Hans Thiessen for helping us with our visual identity, and Stephanie Quek and Marvin Ekk for helping with our communications and tech set-up.

We’re also excited to introduce our staff and elder team. By God’s grace, Brian Ekk and I will be the initial elders for Covenant City, providing pastoral oversight of the church. While we look to raise up elders for Covenant City, we are thankful for the continued support of our steering committee and the Christ City elders. Hayley Atkinson has joined our staff team as our Director of Kids Ministry, while Ehud Lee has also come on as a Ministry Apprentice. The Ministry Apprentice position is part of Covenant City’s desire to build God’s Kingdom by raising up more men and women for gospel ministry. Ehud will be coordinating our Music Team and helping out in other service areas while he seeks to get equipped for vocational ministry.

The Lord has also been guiding our steps in our building search. The two locations we are focusing on are in central Richmond, and we hope to announce the confirmed location in the coming weeks. Please continue praying with us as we follow the Lord’s leading.

Commit your activities to the Lord, and your plans will be established. (Proverbs 16:3)

We firmly believe that Covenant City cannot be established without prayer. As we look towards our launch in September (exact date TBD), please continue praying with us and join us for our monthly prayer meetings if you’re able to. The prayer meetings have been a tremendous encouragement, and we plan for them to continue as a church rhythm up to and after launch.

We’d also like to invite you to join a service team. We have established 5 service teams to help our Sunday gatherings happen. You can get more details each on service team, and sign up for them, on the serve page on our website.

Lastly, our values reflect the gospel culture we hope to cultivate at Covenant City. They also frame the gospel fruitfulness we are striving for as a church. Again, more details can be found on the about page on our website.

It was such a joy to gather together to reflect on God’s goodness, and trust in His provision as we plan ahead!
