Sept 15 - Praying Together

All these with one accord were devoting themselves to prayer (Acts 1:14)

While God calls us to pray in private (Matt 6:5-6), he also exhorts us to pray together in community by praying for and with each other (Acts 1:14). Praying in community has added power (Matt 18:19; James 5:14-16), while also uniting us and reminding us that the Christian life is to be lived out in community (Eph 4: 13).

This evening, we will be gathering for our Worship and Prayer Night at 7:00 P.M. Even if you’re unable to join us for this evening, find some time this week to pray with someone else.

David Mathis gives some helpful tips for praying with others:

Christian prayer is a response to God’s self-revelation to us, and so it is fitting to anchor our prayer in Scripture.

2. Limit sharing time
Encourage people to share their requests by praying them with the information needed to let others in on what they’re praying.

3. Pray without show, but with others in mind
Good corporate praying is not directed just to God, but has our fellow pray-ers in mind. This means that, like Jesus, we pray most often with “we,” “us,” and “our,” and with both authenticity and candour that is appropriate for those assembled
